Are wedding videographers worth it?
I was having a chat with a wedding videographer recently talking about how wedding magicians are down the pecking order when it comes to wedding suppliers.
He mentioned how he believed that videographers are not much higher when it comes to priority with couples, and this got me thinking – are wedding videographers worth it?
The short answer is yes! Wedding videos are worth their weight in gold and then some. Let’s take a look at some of the reasons why you should consider having a wedding video done:
A wedding video captures candid moments of the day that you may miss
Your wedding video is not just a way to look back on your day and reminisce, it’s full of fun and candid moments that you would have otherwise missed. From your wedding party horsing around with the photographer to tender talks between the bridesmaids, there are plenty of small details that only a videographer can capture that make your wedding film truly special. These delightfully honest moments will certainly make you smile when you look back at the footage, providing everlasting memories that tell a story all their own.
You can share your wedding day with loved ones who could not attend
With the help of technology, you can still share your special day with all your loved ones who couldn’t be there. Hiring a wedding videographer is a great way to ensure you never miss out on precious memories from your big day. Whether they’re across town or across the world, you can now be sure that all of your friends and family will be able to witness your happiness and joy from the comfort of their own home. It’s not quite like being there in person, but it’s an amazing way for them to join in on the fun!
The video will capture how your guests reacted to speeches and other events throughout the day
Rather than just looking through some carefully posed photos, you can re-live all the fun that your guests had throughout the day. Plus you get to hear their sweet and funny responses to varying speeches, events, and even surprises! A wedding video really allows you to gain a much more in-depth sense of the atmosphere and provides a fabulous full circle of your special day.
Professional editing allows you to create highlight reels or montages showcasing the best parts of your big day
One of the best parts of working with a professional editor is that they can help create a highlight reel for your big day. You can showcase only the most important moments, turning an entire day’s worth of memories into just a few minutes of joy. Professional editing will make sure each moment looks and sounds perfect; music and special effects can be added to enhance the viewer experience. It’s also great to have something to look back on after the rush of the event has come and gone; from a few conversations with your editor, you’ll be able to put together beautiful montages for your family and friends to enjoy for years to come!
You’ll end up with a cinematic-style movie!
The quality of today’s professional equipment is simply staggering and your wedding day will feel like a real-life blockbuster with cinematic prowess. It will look out of this world! Of course, there are plenty of different styles to choose from: maybe you want your film to be more documentary-style with a lot of candid footage, or perhaps you’d prefer something more stylized and cinematic with lots of slow-motion shots.
Amazing soundtracks can be added to make the final video even more extraordinary
You can really customise your wedding video by having soundtracks that not only add to the production but have real special meaning to you. The emotions the music evokes can add so much magic and uniqueness to your edited footage.
Videographers will blend in
It’s a common misconception that your videographer will stand out and possibly get in the way whilst trying to get their shots. With today’s technology, however, you can be sure that your wedding videographer will blend in with your guests, remaining discrete whilst still getting amazing shots. You won’t even know they’re there!
A professional wedding videographer will also work closely with your wedding photographer to ensure you both capture moments without stepping on each other’s toes.
You’ll end up with moments your photographer didn’t get
This isn’t about how your photographer “missed” something but by having someone else capture footage, particularly on video, you’ll be presented with angles, moments and emotions that weren’t able to be captured by your photographer.
Should I have a photographer or videographer?
For me, it shouldn’t be an either/or decision when considering a photographer and videographer. Both can work together to create beautiful images and memories that you’ll have for years to come so make sure you consider both options when planning your wedding!
Which is more important; a wedding photo or a wedding video?
Of course, for many, it all comes down to costs and if you’re limited with your wedding budget, a videographer will probably get the boot over the photographer. However, a wedding videographer is amazing value for money and the benefits above will certainly make you realise the importance of having one to capture your special day.
Looking back on my wedding day, we chose to have a videographer very last minute but I can honestly say if we had to plan our day again, we would have prioritised videography over some other elements.
Do wedding videographers give you all the footage?
Typically, you’ll end up with a montage of your day whether that’s a snappy 3-5 minute highlights film or a 10-15 minute mini-movie. There are many videographers that will let you purchase the raw unedited footage
Can’t we just get our friends to film the day?
Of course, you can! The same goes for the taking of photos, providing the catering and designing your dress. Filming a wedding is more than just pressing a button in a spray-and-pray fashion. Many components and factors separate your close friends (the amateur) from the professional; by the time this is found out, it will be too late! It’s also a high-pressure situation and you only get one chance to capture the vows, the first glance from the groom as the bride appears for the ceremony, the first kiss, the first dance, friends and family on the dance floor, the wedding guests toasting the speeches, etc.
Yes, phones can capture incredible footage but it won’t have the same feel, consistency and level of quality that a professional videographer could offer.
Conclusion
Are wedding videographers worth it?
Having a wedding videographer to capture your special day is an amazing way to remember the moments that you can’t get back. From cinematic slow-motion shots to custom soundtracks and discrete filming, there are so many benefits of having professional footage at your wedding. You’ll end up with photos and video clips that will evoke emotion for years after the celebration has ended. Don’t forget: it doesn’t have to be either/or choice when considering photography and videography – why not go for both? With all these wonderful features in mind, don’t miss out on capturing those precious memories from one of life’s most important days!
