what to do if it rains on your wedding day
What if it rains on my wedding day? Firstly, according to tradition, it’s good luck!
No one wants their wedding day to be ruined by rain, but sometimes it can’t be helped. If you’re unlucky enough to have rain on your wedding day, don’t worry! There are plenty of things you can do to make the best of a bad situation. In this blog post, we will discuss some tips and tricks for dealing with rain on your wedding day.
Having a plan b will help you enjoy the occasion should the heavens open.
What to do if it rains on your wedding day
Hire a Wedding Magician
Let’s get real. I’m a huge proponent of keeping guests entertained no matter the weather. But let’s face it, having a close-up magician (like me!) on standby is a game-changer if you get stuck indoors for a while. A wedding magician can step in to keep small groups of guests enthralled and amused until the skies clear. Check out some of these reactions to get a taste of what’s in store!
Embrace it!
On your wedding day, you want everything to be perfect. But sometimes, things don’t go according to plan. If it rains on your big day, don’t despair! Embrace the weather and let it add to the overall atmosphere of your special day. Use umbrellas for dramatic effect in your photos, or let the rain add a touch of romance. Whatever you do, don’t let a little rain ruin your wedding day. With the right attitude, you can turn a rainy forecast into a blessing in disguise!
Umbrellas
A rainy wedding should be met with a flurry of cute umbrellas!
They’ll obviously keep you and your guests from the elements but also make for great photos!
If you’re planning on using umbrellas, make sure to pick a colour or pattern that will complement your wedding’s overall aesthetic.
Clear umbrellas are also a great option as they won’t block out the natural light.
Pack the Rain Boots!
Those (expensive) wedding shoes won’t enjoy the wet weather so be sure to pack a pair of rain boots or flats that you can change into.
They’ll be sure to keep your feet bone dry but again, they’ll make for epic photos. Your grubby old garden boots just won’t cut it on your big day. There are many elegant and sophisticated rain boots on the market that would look great peeking out from beneath your wedding dress. A pair of white rain boots would be perfect for a country chic wedding while a bolder colour or print would be fun for a more playful and informal affair.
Blankets on standby!
If there is rain, there’s a chance it’ll be a little chilly too. If your revenue doesn’t have heat lamps, be sure to have some blankets on hand to keep you and your guests warm. They can also double as props for your wedding photos!
Speak to your venue
If your venue doesn’t have a contingency plan for bad weather, you could be left scrambling at the last minute to find a new location. This is why it’s so important to speak to your venue about their policy on inclement weather. Find out if they have a backup plan in place so that you can rest assured knowing that your wedding will go off without a hitch – no matter what the weather throws your way. If you’re planning an outdoor ceremony, all top venues will be able to provide an indoor option which carries the same wedding style.
Speak with your photographer
Have a chat with your wedding photographer about photos on a rainy day. Natural light is always preferred, but professional photographers should have the equipment and know-how to switch to inside shots if needed. It rarely rains all day, so be ready for you and your wedding party to jump out when the clouds have moved on for outdoor photos.
Weatherproof makeup!
If you’re getting married on a day when the forecast calls for rain, you’ll need to make sure your makeup is weatherproof. Fortunately, there are a few easy ways to make your makeup last through the tears and the rain. First, start with a primer to help your makeup stay put.
Then, use waterproof mascara and eyeliner to prevent smudging. For your lips, go with a long-wearing lip colour that won’t bleed or fade. And finally, set your makeup with a setting powder or spray to help it withstand the elements. With these simple tips, you’ll be able to enjoy your rainy day wedding without worrying about your makeup running. Chat with your makeup artist to ensure you and your bridal party are rainproof!
Indoor activities
Depending on the space available, consider bringing some lawn games such as giant Jenga inside to keep guests entertained. Easy-to-understand board games are also a great option and can be played in small groups. I highly recommend games such as:
- Dobble
- Pass the Pigs
- Perudo
Card games are another great option that can be played in larger or smaller groups. Just make sure to have enough decks on hand to accommodate all of your guests!
Emergency Indoor Entertainment!
If you’re worried about what will happen if it rains on your wedding day, have no fear! Indoor entertainment, such as a close-up magician, can help ensure your wedding maintains a fun vibe. A close-up magician is a perfect way to keep your guests entertained during Cocktail Hour or while they’re waiting for the bride and groom to arrive. It’s certainly a great form of unexpected wedding entertainment!
Plus, they’re a great way to get everyone interacting and laughing – even if it’s raining outside! So if you’re worried about the weather ruining your big day, rest assured that a close-up magician can help make your wedding rain or shine.
Other indoor options:
Acoustic singers
A photo booth
Casino tables
Cocktail making
Check with your suppliers
How rainproof are your suppliers? Will they still be able to honour the contract should the wedding forecast turn wet?
From marquee hire to caterers, it’s important to check that your suppliers are happy to still provide their services in the event of rain. If they’re not, see if you can find a rain cover solution or an alternative supplier who is willing to brave the weather!
Check walkways
Heels and wet walkways are a disaster waiting to happen so be vigilant in checking for any slippery patches that could cause a problem. Place mats or rugs over any areas that may become wet and slippery. The dance floor should also be checked as this is a common place for guests to congregate and you don’t want anyone slipping and injuring themselves.
Don’t forget the snacks!
Keep your guests fed and watered throughout the day with some easy-to-eat snacks whilst you wait for the rain to pass (it won’t last all day). Consider things like popcorn, candyfloss or a chocolate fountain when discussing your wet weather plan.
Warn your guests
If you’re keeping your eye on the long-range forecasts and you’re expecting a rainy wedding day, make sure to send out a note to your guests in advance. This will help them plan ahead so that they can dress appropriately and be prepared for the weather conditions. Nobody wants to be caught off guard on their big day, so make sure you give your guests a heads up about the potential for rain!
Dance in the rain!
If all else fails and the rain just won’t let up, make the most of it and dance in the rain! This is your day after all, so embrace the weather, pop on your wellington boots and have your photographer capture the fun. The best-laid plans often go out the window on your wedding day, so just roll with it and enjoy whatever comes your way!
They say it’s good luck!
Rain on wedding meaning? While most brides hope for clear skies on their wedding day, some believe that rain is actually good luck. After all, it is a sign of fertility and abundance. Plus, the soft pitter-patter of raindrops can be incredibly romantic, and you won’t have to worry about being too hot 🙂
Conclusion
Is it good for it to rain on your wedding day? Apart from the tradition that says it’s good luck, as we’ve seen above, a rain alternative wedding can still be fun.
